Our physicians and nurse practioners also work and teach in Boston’s Medical Schools and community health centers off island, organize medical educational conferences, raise families, write books, create theatrical works, and participate in a variety of activities on Martha's Vineyard.  Our doctor's office has embraced electronic medical records to efficiently coordinate patient care, and is well integrated with hospitals and consultants both on and “off island” for referrals, and specialized testing.

We accept many insurance plans, and offer on-site laboratory testing for our patients. on site for our patient’s convenience. The entire staff is devoted to the critical role we have in serving the medical needs of our community.

We are in the process of identifying and collaborating with new physicians from a variety of specialties such as gastroenterology, nephrology/geriatric medicine, neurology etc to make available expanded specialty care to MV, and VMC.

Clinical Providers

Gerald Yukevich, mdGerry Yukevich, M.D.

Dr. Yukevich graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He holds a Masters in Public Health from Harvard and a BA in English Literature from Princeton. He spent the first ten years of his medical career as an emergency room physician in a variety of Massachusetts mainland hospitals. He now lives in Vineyard Haven having spent 7 seven years in our hospital’s emergency room. He joined Dr. Michael Jacobs in Vineyard Medical Services in 2006 and joined Vineyard Medical Care in 2014. In 2014 and again in 2015 Dr. Yukevich was voted the Island’s Best Primary Care Physician. His interests range from the prevention and treatment of tick-borne illnesses, to the Vineyard Playhouse where he serves on the board, as well as writes and performs. He plays the piano and violin, reads Pushkin in its original Russian, etc.



Dr. Koehler received her undergraduate degree at Wellseley College and went on to receive her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of medicine. She did her residency at New England Deaconess Hospital and a gastroenterology fellowship at Tufts New England Medical Center. She practiced on the Island from 1994 to 2004 and served on the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital’s Board of Trustees. She subsequently served for 12 years at Cape Cod Hospital before joining Vineyard Medical Care in 2015.



Dr. Wolff received a B.A. from Harvard College, a B.M.S. from Dartmouth Medical School, a M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and a M.A.T. and M.P.H. from Harvard University. He is a board certified emergency physician and pediatrician, and an associate professor of Global Health at Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH). Dr. Wolff’s areas of interest in global health include use of information technologies for education, infectious disease, maternal and child health, emergency medicine, leadership and management. In 2007 he received the Community Clinician of the Year Award from the Massachusetts Medical Society. In 2013 he received the Norman Scotch Award for Excellence in Teaching from Boston University School of Public Health. Dr. Wolff has been coming to the Island since he was 14. He has been a part time member of the Vineyard Medical Care Staff since 2012.


Ilene Klein, MD

Dr KleinDr. Klein received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed her residency training at Brown University’s Department of Family Medicine. She is a fellow in the American Academy of Family Medicine. Dr. Klein began her primary care practice here on Martha’s Vineyard, initially at the Hospital and ultimately as a fully-subscribed private practice physician. She also served the Island as Duke’s County’s first Associate Health Commissioner. She subsequently journeyed to California where she directed Qualcomm’s worldwide employee healthcare program and helped pioneer the development of wellness-linked telemetric medicine. She was a Commissioner of the Vitality Institute which published the 2014 report entitled “Health Promotion and the Prevention of Chronic Disease in Working age Americans.” Dr. Klein returned part time to our Island and to part time practice with Vineyard Medical Care in 2016.


Linda Kaplan, MDDr. Kaplan

Dr. Kaplan received her medical degree, cum laude, from the University of Cape Town Medical School in South Africa. She completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in pulmonary, critical-care medicine at Tufts Medical Center where she has since been employed as a staff physician and assistant professor, preceptor and clinical educator. From 2007, Dr. Kaplan has also worked at Vineyard Medical Services and Vineyard Medical Care during the summers. She has a residence in Vineyard Haven and lives on the island part time.



Marcy Holmes, NP

Marcy Holmes NP-WH-CMarcy Holmes is a Nurse Practitioner, board certified in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (ANCC), Women's Health Care (NCC) and Menopause clinician (NCC). She received her BSN cum laude from the University at Buffalo School of Nursing in New York and subsequent RN license in 1995. She received her MS as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner from The University of Rochester Graduate School of Nursing in 2001, training extensively at Strong Memorial Hospital Medical Center in Rochester NY. In 2012 she went on to complete a Post-Masters at UMASS Medical School Graduate School of Nursing, as Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. Holmes formerly contributed website content and nutritional support programs to womentowomen.com and womenshealthnetwork.com. She practiced for over ten years at the Women to Women Health Care Center in Yarmouth, Maine. Holmes has been a Martha’s Vineyard resident since 2003 and now divides her professional time between Vineyard Medical Care and Martha's Vineyard Family Planning to provide holistic client centered care. She also serves our community as a sexual assault nurse examiner for MV hospital, and enjoys involvement in local Girl Scouts.


KristIn AlexandER, NP

Kristin Alexander received her RN in 1985 and her Masters degree as an NP in 1997 from the University of MA. Boston, and Dartmouth respectively. She has been practicing as an NP throughout the Cape and Islands, with experience in both urgent and primary care. She joined Vineyard Medical Services for the summer of 2014 and is happy to be invited back to the new Vineyard Medical Care where she is treating walk-in patients. Kristin is also a documentary filmmaker, with several award winning short films. She currently resides in Woods Hole, and commutes to the Island.


Hannah Nichols, RN

Hannah Nichols received her RN from the MGH Institute of Health Professions in 2015 and is continuing there in a Family Nurse Practitioner program, with graduation projected for the summer of 2017. She has served the Vineyard in multiple capacities. In 2012, as part of her Masters program in public health, Hannah worked with the Island’s Tick-borne Illness Initiative to document the extent of Island disease, and developed an improved Island-wide disease reporting system. She has also worked with Vineyard Complementary Medicine in West Tisbury and has been the Executive Director of the Chilmark Community Center’s summer childrens program since 2013. She has joined Vineyard Medical Care this summer as an RN. She is also serving in a joint family NP preceptorship with both Vineyard Medical Care and with Martha’s Vineyard Family Planning.

Leo Leonicio trained as a CNA before joining Vineyard Medical Care in 2015. He is fluent in Portuguese and resides in Oak Bluffs.

Ann Stone, EMT

Ann Stone is a Medical Assistant at Vineyard Medical Care. She is a certified Emergency Medical Technician and instructor and continues to work part time for the Tisbury Ambulance Service. Ann lives in Falmouth and joined Vineyard Medical Care in 2016.

Executive Team

Michael D. Loberg, phd

Michael D. Loberg holds a PhD in Chemistry from Washington University and is the President of Vineyard Medical Care and the Chairman of the Vineyard Center for Clinical Research. Dr. Loberg has 17 years of experience in pharmaceutical drug discovery and development, combined with 21 years of experience in senior management positions worldwide, most notably for Bristol-Myers Squibb Company from 1983 to 1995. From 1973 to 1979, Dr. Loberg was also Associate Professor of Medicine and Pharmacy at the University of Maryland. He served as the CEO of Inotek and NitroMed and remains active in the biotechnology with board seats with IGM Biosciences, ArQule, and Kereos. He has served as a Tisbury Health Commissioner since 2009 and is on the board of Vineyard Village at Home. He has served as a board member of Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard and has co-chaired the Boards of Health Committee on Tick Borne Diseases, a program funded through a five grant from the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. He has been a full-time island resident in Vineyard Haven for the past 15 years.


Dr. Michael LobergaJAMES BUTTERICK, MD

Dr. Jim Butterick graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School and then did two years of surgical training and two years of anesthesia training before leaving to practice in New Hampshire. He is Board-certified in Anesthesiology. He transitioned to an administrative career in the early 90's and got a Masters in Medical Management from Tulane University. He was a Vice-President for Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer for several hospitals in New England, most recently with Cape Cod Healthcare. He has been very active with medical staff credentialing, healthcare quality and safety, and addressing issues of physician performance and behavior. He is a full time resident of Martha's Vineyard and lives in Oak Bluffs.


Lena Prisco, phd

Dr. Prisco holds a PhD in Pharmacology from UCONN and is the Founder and Director of the Vineyard Medical Care’s Clinical Laboratory. She is also the Principal Laboratory Investigator at the Vineyard Center for Clinical Research. Dr. Prisco has over 18 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry in research, medical education, drug discovery, and the conduct of clinical trials. From 1998 to 2009, Dr. Prisco was an Adjunct Professor in the Biology and Health Sciences Departments at Quinnipiac University. She was the former Laboratory Director of Martha’s Vineyard Hospital from 2010 to 2014, holds a Master Degree in Laboratory Diagnostics and Clinical Biochemistry, is certified in Clinical Laboratory Science as well as is a College of American Pathologists and CLIA Certified Clinical Laboratory Director. Dr. Prisco also works with Drs. Loberg and Yukevich on the Island Boards of Health Tick Borne Disease Education Committee. She has been a full-time island resident of Oak Bluffs for the past 7 years.
